When McDonald's gave away 10,000 bottles of its Big Mac sauce in January, it created a frenzy online. People started selling their bottles of limited edition sauce on eBay for more than $100 on average and one person even listed their bottle for $10,000. If that wasn't enough, McDonald's continued to tease us by releasing a line of Big Mac sauce, Filet-O-Fish tartar sauce and McChicken sauce at grocery stores only in Canada this spring.
Big Mac Sauce For Sale
He was right. For $12.70, you can get your hands on a 12-ounce bottle of Big Mac sauce imported from Canada. Plus, it comes with Prime free one-day shipping, which should help justify paying more than $5 for a bottle of dressing. If you're more of a McChicken or Filet-O-Fish person, you can also pick those up on Amazon too.
The burger giant made available 10,000 bottles of the sauce at select restaurants worldwide starting Thursday. Several of those bottles have been posted to the online auction site and for quite a bit of money.
Of course, not everyone is going bonkers for McDonald's secret sauce. Many social media users have pointed out that the restaurant's secret recipe has a similar flavor to Thousand Island dressing, which can easily be purchased for about $2.
But unlike the fast food version, my copycat recipe is completely gluten-free, and much healthier! Knowing how to make big mac sauce gives you control over the ingredients. This way, with a few substitutions, you can even create an egg-free or dairy-free version if you want!
I tried it just now and I had my son give it a go I didn't tell him what it was and first thing he said... wow mom this tastes like Mac sauce, so not sure what Mae is talking about it's pretty damn close to the real thing...thanks for sharing ?
What I instantly liked about your recipe - No Ketchup or French/Thousand Island salad dressing. I like the tangy taste, but made it sweeter for my kids by adding more BBQ sauce, and used Onion salt powder. Perfect! Stored in a empty food jar, and it will be permanent home condiment. Overall 5-star rating, thank you for sharing.
Whether this tastes like mac sauce or not, it's still delicious. Just like anything other sauce, dip, or condiment you make at home, it's important to let it sit overnight for all of the flavors to meld. We enjoyed this very much! Thank you for posting this.
This sauce is also delicious drizzled over a fresh wedge salad. (You can add a few more drops of vinegar to thin the sauce, if necessary.) Try it as a spread on sandwiches too, like a turkey club or a Reuben with pastrami and rye. At my house, we use the special sauce as an awesome as a dip for french fries!
Once released, people wanted to know what exactly was in the secret sauce. We decided we'd share the Big Mac Sauce recipe, the most popular copycat recipe and also answer any common questions people have about the super secret sauce right here.
There is no doubt that what elevates the Big Mac from just a double burger with cheese to the ultimate quick-serve burger is the Big Mac secret sauce. The Big Mac sauce is creamy with just a bit of tang and spice that works well with the richness of the meat and cheese.
The big secret to the special sauce is the addition of Indian relish. The recipe for Indian relish calls for red bell peppers and onions mixed with vinegar and red pepper flakes. This mixture gives the Big Mac sauce a bit of a kick and helps to thicken it up.
The Big Mac is a hamburger sold by the international fast food restaurant chain McDonald's. It was introduced in the Greater Pittsburgh area in 1967 and across the United States in 1968. It is one of the company's flagship products and signature dishes. The Big Mac contains two beef patties, cheese, shredded lettuce, pickles, minced onions, and a Thousand Island-type dressing advertised as "special sauce", on a three-slice sesame-seed bun.
The Big Mac is made with two 1.6 oz (45 g) beef patties, a "special sauce" (similar to Thousand Island dressing),[7] shredded iceberg lettuce, one processed American cheese slice, two slices of dill pickle, and minced onions, served on a three slice sesame seed bun.[8] On October 1, 2018, McDonald's announced that it would remove all artificial preservatives, flavors, and coloring from the Big Mac.[9][10]
Big Mac Sauce is delivered to McDonald's restaurants in sealed canisters designed by Sealright, from which it is meant to be directly dispensed using a calibrated "sauce gun" that dispenses a specified amount of the sauce for each pull of the trigger.[12]
In 2012, McDonald's executive chef Dan Coudreaut released a YouTube video revealing the recipe of the sauce. It consists of store-bought mayonnaise, sweet pickle relish and yellow mustard whisked together with vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder and paprika.[13][14]
The sauce is occasionally available for purchase on its own for a limited time. The first time was in 2015. A 25 ml (0.85 U.S. fl oz) tube was available for purchase but only in restaurants in Australia.[15] The last time it was available was in 2020. A 50 ml (1.7 U.S. fl oz) pot was available for purchase but only in restaurants in the UK and Ireland.[16]
In 1974 McDonald's commissioned an advertising jingle which popularized the list of ingredients of the Big Mac: "Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun."[18]
Created by Jim Delligatti 1967, the original Big Mac wasn't actually called a Big Mac. It first went by the names "The Aristocrat" and the "Blue Ribbon Burger", neither of which caught on with customers. The third name, "Big Mac" was created by Esther Glickstein Rose, a young corporate McDonald's employee. This sandwich went on to worldwide fame, popularizing the iconic special sauce.
Make the sauce simply by mixing the ingredients together, then store it in the refrigerator overnight to allow the flavors to meld. You can enjoy it immediately if you are impatient, but letting it meld makes a big difference.
Once you craft your own Special Sauce, you are well on your way to earning your children's undying love and affection by making them homemade Big Macs! You will want to brush up on my fast food burger recipe to really hit these out of the park. Though I have been known to slather this sauce on larger homemade burger patties too!
To make McDonald's Big Mac, lightly toast a sesame seed bun, and grab an extra bottom bun to use as the middle piece. Spread the special sauce on the bottom bun, sprinkle with diced onion, shredded lettuce, and top with a slice of American cheese. Place one burger patty on the cheese, then add the middle bun, top with more sauce, lettuce, and add pickles. Finally add the second burger patty, top with the crown of the bun and enjoy!
THIS is the sauce you want to make that's the CLOSEST to McDonald's Big Mac sauce. I've made SOOOO many and they don't come close to this. NO ketchup or dressing or BBQ sauce - just that taste that you want on your Big Mac Salad! Awesome. Thank you!
I have tried several recipes for BM sauce and none were close until I found this one. I left out the relish as I don't eat pickles and relish but though maybe something about the relish was all the difference so next batch I put relish in it. It still was not quite right and after looking at the ingredients and seeing spice extractives and later, spices, with no spices actually shown in this recipe so I tried various ones but only made it worse.Yesterday, I made another batch but had forgot to get another jar of Mayo as I only had it for this recipe, not using it for anything else so I figured try the Miracle Whip. Bingo!! It tasted pretty close to my memory.Today, I went out and bought a Big Mac, scraped off the sauce, tasted some and then tasted mine with the only real noticeable difference was the warmth of the BM sauce compared to the cool of my home made.I removed the pickles, added the sauce back onto half of the BM with my sauce on the other half, closed my eyes and kept turning the burger around until there was no way for me to know where each sauce was. I ate the burger and couldn't tell the difference. On checking online for diff in Mayo MW, the noticeable difference was that MW had spicing and Mayo did not so I believe the spicing in the Mw is what made the difference. Side benefit is that MW is about half the calories of Mayo.
Onion: Using grated onion is one of the tricks to make this sauce absolutely perfect! Grating the onion makes it melt in your mouth and helps it kind of disappear into the sauce. It creates such a better texture and flavor than mincing it does.
You can smear this vegan special sauce on anything to give your vegan heart the nostalgia of a Big Mac. You can re-create my Vegan Big Mac and also pour your vegan big mac sauce over some fries!
Not only did I want to make it accessible for vegans to enjoy the nostalgia of a vegan big mac sauce, but I also wanted to make it accessible for anyone to make big mac sauce at home!
